We are very pleased to welcome Nienke Palstra to the team

Nienke has extensive experience working on complex technology policy issues and building coalitions to ensure technology serves people — not entrenched corporate interests.

She joins us from Global Witness, where since 2020 she co-founded and led EU policy and advocacy for the Digital Threats to Democracy campaign. She worked closely with People vs Big Tech during the negotiations on the EU’s Digital Services Act and its later enforcement.

This work included submitting numerous successful complaints to regulators, on issues ranging from invasive ad targeting on LinkedIn to political bias in social media algorithms during elections.

Before moving into tech policy, Nienke worked on EU anti-corruption and anti-money laundering rules at Transparency International EU and Global Witness. She also spent several years at Unicef UK working on child protection, including online safety.

Nienke has spoken at high-level forums including the Council of Europe, the UK Parliament and the European Parliament, and her work has been featured in leading international media such as the Financial Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian and the New York Times.

She is looking forward to working with partners across the movement to challenge Big Tech’s power and business model at this critical time.
