Stop the digital rollback

EU leaders must stand firm and protect Europe’s digital rulebook.

Together with our partners Balanced Economy Project, European Digital Rights (EDRi), Greenpeace, LobbyControl, Rebalance Now, WeMove Europe, we sent a clear message to EU leaders ahead of their Council meeting:
Fight for us, not for Trump’s billionaires.

By projecting this message onto iconic EU buildings in Brussels, we wanted to expose a contradiction. While EU leaders talk about strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty, they risk weakening the very rules that make it possible.

At a time when pressure is mounting to weaken rules that hold Big Tech accountable, Europe faces a clear choice: stand up for people, democracy and fair competition, or hand more power to tech billionaires.

Over the last decade, Europe has built some of the world’s strongest digital protections for privacy, competition, and tech accountability.

They exist for a reason.

They protect personal data. They give regulators tools to challenge monopolies. They help curb harmful online practices. And they set standards for how powerful technologies, including artificial intelligence, affect our lives.

But now many of these protections are at risk.

Under the banner of “simplification” or “innovation,” there is growing pressure to weaken the very rules designed to protect people and hold tech giants accountable.

Rights are not red tape.

If EU leaders are serious about digital sovereignty, they must defend the rules that make it real — and ensure Europe’s digital future serves the public interest, not corporate power.
