PvBT Statement condemning House Judiciary attacks against the DSA and European CSOs
People vs Big Tech and allies strongly condemn the recent report by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee attacking the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) and smearing European civil society organisations.
The DSA is a democratically adopted law designed to protect people online, rein in systemic harms caused by very large online platforms, and uphold fundamental rights. That is not an attack on freedom of expression. Attempting to intimidate European lawmakers and civil society into silence is an attack on freedom of expression.
Recent hostile attacks against European civil society organisations and their tech related research and advocacy - including the US Government’s travel bans in December - are unacceptable. We call on the European Commission and EU Governments to hold strong on Europe’s tech rules and defend civil society under threat.
Regulating Big Tech is democracy in action. We stand with our partners across Europe and reject any attempt to undermine legitimate, rights-based regulation to tackle unchecked corporate power.
