People VS Big Tech comment on EU Google Adtech Fine
Commenting on the news just released by the European Commission fining Google €2.95 billion over its abuse of a dominant position in the advertising market:
Pamela Valenti, Campaigns and Policy Director at People vs Big Tech, said:
“All eyes are on von der Leyen to stand up to Trump’s brazen threats towards our democracies. This fine will not be enough to tackle Google’s illegal advertising monopoly. Europe has everything it needs to now make the necessary decision to break up Google’s stranglehold over digital advertising: strong legal grounds, mounting global momentum against Google, and European citizen support.
Our YouGov polling in June found that two-thirds of people in France, Germany and Spain want Europe to continue to enforce our laws even if it risks conflict with Trump.
The Commission must push forward with a break up decision - or it will have ignored not only the evidence, but the clear democratic will of Europe’s citizens.”
